Alex Sherriff - Volunteer

Alex Sherriff is a volunteer at Sunderland Maritime Heritage (SMH). He joined SMH in 2015.

Alex's first job after leaving school was at Webster's Ropery in Deptford, Sunderland. After this, he went to sea and rose to the rank of an AB (able-bodied) seaman.

Alex then moved onshore and began working in Sunderland's shipyards. He was a shot blast operator and red leader.

After the shipyards closed down, he re-trained as a heavy goods driver and later on a coach driver. He travelled throughout Europe in this role, before retiring in 2013.

Alex is currently on the Willdora's restoration team.
