We are a totally self-funded and part-time volunteer manned Local History and Heritage organisation, preserving and publicising  the significant Maritime Heritage of Sunderland based on the banks of the River Wear, in North East England.<\/p>

Sunderland has been a place of fishing, shipbuilding and seaborne trading  for several hundred years – though other aspects of its local history go even further back, notably to the Venerable Bede and the twin monasteries of St Peter’s, just across the river from us and St Paul’s, in Jarrow, some 6 miles to the north.<\/p>
