New volunteers are always welcome at Sunderland Maritime Heritage.

At Sunderland Maritime Heritage we enjoy a lively, fun and rewarding day to day experience.  We help people learn about our local ship and boat building history.

If you enter our postcode (SR1 2BB) in the "Do-it" box opposite and click search, the search results will show our current vacancies and how to apply.

Or you can just ring us on 0191 5102540.

Sunderland Maritime Heritage have opportunities in a variety of roles.

  • Our website, social media and public relations content are designed and managed by volunteers in our busy administration office.

  • Probably most volunteers work in our well-equipped woodworking workshop restoring boats or constructing bespoke joinery commissions.

  • Last, but by no means least, volunteers in our visitor centre help catalogue our artefacts, pictures and books to make them more accessible to the community.

Please consider volunteering for Sunderland Maritime Heritage to help make a difference to your community and have a good time.

  • Build new friendships

  • Learn new skills

  • No previous woodworking experience required

  • You can volunteer as much or as little time as you want

  • Do something worthwhile

We have a great rapport with other heritage groups and local agencies and we are looking forward to our involvement with the Tall Ships Race event in 2018.
