James Craig

The James Craig, pride of the Australian Heritage fleet based in Sydney, Australia was originally built as the Clan MacLeod in 1874 at the Sunderland shipyard of Bartram, Haswell & Co for the Scottish ship-owner and merchant Thomas Dunlop.

She is a three masted barque of iron construction some 180 feet in length general cargo ship.  Renamed James Craig in 1905 by her then owner J J Craig of Auckland, New Zealand.

By 1930 the days of sail had passed and she was abandoned at Recherche Bay, Tasmania until 1972 when she was re-floated in readiness for restoration, which was carried out in Sydney.

The James Craig is a fine example of what the City of Adelaide could be for Sunderland.
