One of our supporters, Mr Alexander McVitie has spent many years compiling a spreadsheet of Sunderland launched ships.  It is very comprehensive with over 14,000 entries and is a valuable research tool.  Alexander has kindly gave his permission for it to be featured here.  Alexander McVitie started as an apprentice at Doxford Engine Works in 1955 working in various parts of the works including turning and eventually the erecting shop helping to build all types of engines from four to six cylinder.  He also worked for a year on the first P type engine which ran for a year on trials at the Palmers Hill workshop.  After completing his time he went sea on one of the tankers that was built on the river ie the Stuart Prince.  Alexander has been interested in shipbuilding for many years and one of his projects was to compile a list of ships built at Sunderland and their history where possible.

We are working on a searchable database which uses the spreadsheet to be put here on our website.

For now, please see some graphs below which were derived from the data in Alexander's brilliant work.
